McAninch returns to the Mansfield track and field program in 2021-22 as an assistant coach. McAninch will prominently work with the field group.
McAninch was previously the women's track and field head coach after being elevated from his interim position in September of 2017. He has worked with Mountaineer track & field since 2004.
As an assistant coach with the Mounties, McAninch guided the pole vaulters and hurdlers where he coached 21 PSAC qualifiers and eight All-PSAC performers. The women's pole vault school record has been re-set 15 times during his tenure, and in five different seasons a vaulter has hit an NCAA provisional mark. He has guided five ECAC qualifiers and two USTFCCCA All-Region selections.
In 2011, McAninch coached Alexa Tsiknas to a second-place finish in the pole vault at the PSAC Championships and an NCAA Championship qualification. In 2015, McAninch helped freshman vaulter Charlsie Bowen to fifth place finishes at both the indoor and outdoor PSAC Championships before registering second-place finishes at both championships a year later. Bowen took fourth at the 2017 indoor championships after coming back from an injury.
McAninch also has extensive experience coaching track & field at the high school level.
McAninch earned a BS in education health from Slippery Rock University and a BS in education/driver safety education from IUP.
He is USATF Level II certified in the Jumps/Vault, as well as, Sprints/Hurdles/Relays. McAninch also has a Basic and Advanced Olympic lifts certification.
