Tim Dempsey

Now in his 16th season as the Mountaineers' first head soccer coach, Tim Dempsey has laid the foundation for a successful future.

Dempsey has coached 15 Mountaineers to All-PSAC honors including Mansfield's first conference major award in PSAC  Freshman of the Year Delaney Meadows in 2015. He has also guided five Mountaineers to all-region accolades.

In 2015, Dempsey coached Delaney Meadows to 2nd Team CCA and 3rd Team NSCAA All-Atlantic Region honors along with PSAC Freshman of the Year and 2nd Team All-PSAC honors at forward. Goal keeper Rachel Fox was named 3rd Team NSCAA All-Atlantic Region and 1st Team All-PSAC.

Natalie Adams became the first Mountaineer to receieve an all-region nod in 2008 being named 2nd Team NSCAA All-Atlantic Region

Dempsey's teams have been just as dedicated in the classroom as in the field, earning numerous NSCAA Team Academic Awards along with dozens of PSAC and MU Presidential Scholar-Athlete honors. Mountaineer women's soccer has also made a strong impact in the community, donating a portion of its fundraising to local organizations each year while also volunteering at a variety of events. Dempsey and his team were honored as the
Community Partner of the Year by River Valley Regional YMCA in 2013.

Dempsey came to Mansfield after a stint as the most successful coach in the Mayflower Conference history. In 12 years as the head mentor at Green Mountain College in Vermont, his Eagles won 11 conference championships, advancing to the NAIA National Championship Tournament in 1990, 1996 and 2000. His 2000 team also posted an undefeated record and ranked No. 6 in the nation.

Dempsey was the Mayflower Conference Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year in 1989, 90, 91, 94, 97, 98 and 2000 and the NAIA District V Coach of the Year in 1992 and NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year in 1990, 96, 99 and 2000.

In addition to his success on the soccer field at Green Mountain, Dempsey also served as head women’s basketball coach where he directed his teams to Mayflower Championships five times while being named Coach of the Year on six occasions.

along with his 2000 women's soccer team in 2014.A legendary high school player in his native New Jersey, Dempsey was inducted into the Point Pleasant Foundation Hall of Fame in 2000.

At Glassboro State College (now Rowan University), Dempsey went on to become a four-year First Team All-Conference player and was captain of the 1981 National Championship Team while earning All-American First Team honors. Additionally, Dempsey was also named NCAA Division III's inaugural Player of the Year.

In 1982, Dempsey graduated Magna Cum Laude from Glassboro with a BA in health and physical education. He was then later inducted into Rowan's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989 for men's soccer.


Dempsey, along with his wife Heather, is very active member of the Mansfield community serving as a member of the United Fund. They live in Mansfield and have three children Colleen, Ryan and Erin.
