Biography

Josh Palmer was a Mansfield University football player and assistant coach whose courage and perseverance continue to have a lasting impact on Mountaineer Athletics and the Twin Tiers community.

Diagnosed with late-stage Hodgkin’s disease at the age of 19, Palmer underwent months of chemotherapy and radiation before overcoming the disease and returning to the football field at Mansfield as a defensive back and punt returner.

Palmer helped establish the Josh Palmer Fund to assist local cancer patients and their families with the financial burden of diagnosis and treatment. Since its founding, the fund has raised nearly $2 million to support families throughout the Twin Tiers.

After a knee injury ended his playing career, Palmer remained with the football program as an assistant coach. He graduated from Mansfield University in 2002 with high honors and a degree in secondary education.

The Josh Palmer Pigskin Classic is named in his honor and continues to celebrate Palmer’s legacy of hope, service, and perseverance.
