Derrick McLean

McLean '20 enters his second season as an assistant coach with the sprint football program.

One of the most dangerous receivers in Mountaineer sprint football program-history, McLean was a four-time All-CSFL Receiver, bringing home first-team honors as a sophomore and senior.

As a senior, McLean became the program’s all-time leader in career receiving yards with 1,550 and receptions with 104. McLean ranked in the top five of the CSFL in catches, yards and touchdowns during all four seasons of his career.

Also a program record, McLean added 17 touchdowns, had a career-long reception of 72 yards, while averaging 14.9 yards per catch and 62 receiving yards per game. The Bodine high school grad started every game of his career, except three contests as a junior due to injury.

McLean was a manager with the Mountaineer softball program for two seasons.

Following his senior season, McLean was honored as the Mansfield University Creed Award winner for character, at the 2020 Mountie Awards. McLean battled to return from season ending injuries in back-to-back seasons and leaves Mansfield with multiple receiving records. McLean was a team captain, member of the unity council, and a volunteer for all of the team's community service events. He worked two jobs during his time at Mansfield, delivering pizza for Pizza Hut and working the overnight shift helping children with intellectual disabilities at Martha Lloyd School.

The Philadelphia, Pa. native works is very involved in the community and has coached with multiple youth and high school teams.

McLean graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary & Special Education from Mansfield in 2020.
