Mounties Fall in Defensive Match Against Lackawanna

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers women's soccer team traveled to Scranton, Pa. to take on Lackawanna College Falcons for a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) matchup on Wednesday (Sept. 9) evening.
 
The Mounties (1-3-0) (0-3 PSAC) fell to the Falcons (1-3-0) (1-3 PSAC) by a score of 1-0.
 
Angel Gulé picked up five saves in the game, serving as an anchor for the Mountaineer defense. Aaliyah Stocks took four shots on the day, one of them being on target.
 
FIRST HALF
The first half was a defensive showdown, with only six shots taken between both teams within the first 45 minutes of play.
 
Four of those six shots came from Mounties, two coming from Addison Emenheiser, and the other two off the foot of Stocks.
 
The Falcons, seeking the back of the net, sent two shots on goal in the first half. Gulé made both saves to keep the score even at zero.
 
SECOND HALF
Both offenses picked up in the second half with eight shots being taken across both teams. Stocks picked up two more shots, one of them being on target for the Mountaineers.
 
Sybil Thompson and Hannah Winchester also both took a shot at the back of the net in the second half.
 
Gulé picked up three more saves in the final 45 minutes of play, putting her total to five in the evening.
 
The Falcons were able to slip one shot into the back of the net and overcome the Mounties.

The Mansfield women's soccer team heads to Elmira College next for an exhibition match on Thursday, Sept. 10th for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.
