MANSFIELD, Pa. – There's a quiet kind of anticipation as Karl Van Norman Field sits still for now, but this week it will come alive with the echoes of whistles, chants, and the relentless pursuit of progress. The quiet hills are beginning to stir again—not with autumn's wind, but with the return of pads popping, cleats cutting, and voices rising. The Mountaineers are back. And this time, they're not just looking to compete. They're coming for the top.

In Coach John Evans' eighth season at the helm, the program stands at a critical peak. Last year, Mansfield posted a 3-1 record in Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) North—its best in half a decade—and earned 11 All-CSFL selections. But the momentum didn't stop when the final whistle blew in 2024. It carried straight into recruiting season.

This year's squad includes a record-breaking 43 newcomers—a tidal wave of raw talent and potential the likes of which the program has never seen. Branching across eight positions, the coaching staff landed athletes from California, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Tennessee, Washington D.C, Pennsylvania, and an international athlete from Canada. Mansfield landed 25 defensive athletes, 17 offensive players, and a special teams member.

The Season Ahead

The Mountaineers' 2025 schedule is a mountain in itself. Eight games. Eight chances to prove their chance to compete in the CSFL Championship.

September 27th isn't just any game—it's Homecoming and the Mounties home opener, and the opponent is the University of Pennsylvania. Four home contests include a clash with Caldwell on October 4, one of the most meaningful nights of the season—the Josh Palmer Classic/Pink Out on October 25th vs. Cornell, and a November 8th Senior Day and Military Veterans Appreciation Game, when perennial powerhouse Army comes to town.
