Lewis Leads Mounties to Win in Final Game of 2025

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Mansfield baseball (14-31, 8-20 PSAC East) wrapped up its 2025 season on the road against the West Chester Golden Rams (35-14, 17-11 PSAC East) on Friday afternoon.
 
Game One: West Chester 6, Mansfield 3
 
Mike Biuso singled in the top of the second to put the Mounties up 1-0 early.
 
West Chester tied the game at one in the bottom half, thanks to a wild pitch that allowed the runner to score from third.
 
Garrett Emerick (4.2 IP, five hits, four runs, and four strikeouts) started game one for Mansfield and cruised through the first three innings besides the one wild pitch, allowing WCU to tie the game.
 
However, Emerick ran into trouble in the fourth when the Golden Rams capitalized with runners on second and third with a two-RBI double to left field.
 
West Chester tacked on another in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead into the sixth inning.
 
Shane Stossel and Ryan Verbonitz got the Mountaineers back to within one in the sixth with their sacrifice fly and RBI single.
 
In the bottom half of the sixth, WCU added two big insurance runs and closed the door on the Mounties in the seventh to secure a 6-3 game one victory.
 
Game Two: Mansfield 3, West Chester 1
 
Mansfield jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first with an RBI double down the left field line by Jacob Houtz, a second RBI double by Hunter Smith, who came around to score the third run of the inning on a wild pitch.
 
Austin Lewis started his final game for the Mountaineers in game two and turned in one of his best performances of the season.
 
Lewis sat down 12 of the first 14 batters he faced, allowing just one hit and a walk through four innings.
 
West Chester's best chance came in the fifth after reaching on an error and a walk, putting just their second runner in scoring position of the game.
 
Lewis got the next batter to ground into a fielder's choice and preserved the 3-0 Mansfield lead.
 
WCU got its lead-off man on in the sixth but went 1-2-3 after that as Lewis continued to shove in his final collegiate start.
 
West Chester started the seventh with a triple and a walk, but Coach Chalot let his four-year ace work out of the trouble, allowing just one run and ending 2025 with a 3-1 win for the Mounties.
 
Austin Lewis' final line went: 7.0 innings, two hits allowed, one earned run, with seven punch outs in 101 pitches.
