LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers baseball team (5-7) headed east to take on the Lions of Lincoln University (2-5) for a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday (Mar. 11).
Game One Lincoln 7, Mansfield 0
The Lions jumped ahead quickly, taking a 2-0 lead after belting a two-run homer over the right field wall in the top of the first.
Lincoln added five more in the second, highlighted by a two-out grand slam to extend their lead to 7-0.
Austin Beauchamp took over on the mound for the Mountaineers in the third.
Houtz got Mansfield in the hit column in the fourth with a single up the middle.
Beauchamp threw well, throwing the final four innings for the Mounties, allowing no runs on just two hits and striking out five.
Mansfield got two runners on in the seventh but couldn't push a run across as they fell 7-0.
Game Two Mansfield 16, Lincoln 5
The Mountaineer bats woke up to start game two as Shane Stossel doubled in two runs, roping a ball into left center.
Hunter Smith followed with an RBI single to score Stossel and give the Mounties a 3-0 lead after the first half inning.
Lincoln answered with a run in the bottom half after an RBI single.
Mansfield added two more runs in the second thanks to an RBI double down the left field line by Kahale Burns and an RBI groundout by Ryan Scott.
The second RBI single of the game for the Lions cut the Mountie lead to 5-2 after two innings of play.
In the third, Mansfield scored again, adding a run thanks to an error by the Lions' defense to take a 6-2 lead.
Stossel added to his day with a solo homer over the center field wall in the fourth to put the Mounties up five.
The Mountaineers' offense exploded in the fifth, scoring six runs on five hits. Jacob Houtz highlighted the inning by sending a ball over the left field wall for a two-run shot that put Mansfield up 13-2.
With the score 15-3 after the Mounties got two more from Lincoln errors, the Lions scored two in their half of the sixth as they trailed by 10 entering the seventh.
Smith got in on the fun once again, hitting a solo homer in the top of the seventh.
Garrett Emerick picked up his first win of the year after throwing 4.2 innings and striking out six Lion hitters.
Stossel went 3-5 in the game with two doubles, a home run, and four RBIs.
