MANSFIELD, Pa. - It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that on Saturday, December 7 the Mansfield community lost one of their own. Saramae Radel '23 of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania passed away surrounded by her family and friends.
She was a standout field hockey player during her time at Mansfield.
While at Mansfield, Saramae started all 68 of her career appearances and scored 13 career goals including a game-winner over Lindenwood in her sophomore season where she also earned PSAC All-Conference honors. She also added 21 assists in her career while controlling the midfield for the Mountaineers.
On the field, Saramae was the epitome of a captain. In her senior season she helped lead the way to a 12-7 record and was at the forefront of the Mounties first ever home playoff game and playoff win in program history when she assisted the game-winning goal to teammate Hannah Meyer.
Off the field, she was an even better person than an athlete. There was never a time where she failed to put a smile on people's faces. Saramae lit up every room she was in with her infectious personality. She will be missed dearly by Mansfield and its community.
On Saturday evening, friends and loved ones gathered at Evangelical Hospital for a Hero Walk to honor Saramae and provide comfort to her family. As an organ donor, Saramae's gift will save lives, a testament to her enduring compassion and generosity.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 14 at Hummels Church, 427 Sassafras Rd., Middleburg, PA 17842, with a viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., a funeral service from 10:30 a.m. to Noon, and a meal to follow. All are welcome to attend.
Let us come together to support one another and honor Saramae's life and the joy she brought to so many.
