Raymond Named CSFL Offensive Player of the Year as Mansfield Lands 11 on All-CSFL Teams

On Monday morning, the conference announced their 2024 All-Conference awards, which the Mounties found many spots.

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Cahsid Raymond was named the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Offensive Player of the Year to highlight 11 members of the Mansfield Mountaineer sprint football team to earn All-CSFL accolades, the league announced on Mon. (Dec. 2) morning.

With 11 members, this marks the sixth consecutive season for the Mounties with double-digit conference honors.

Raymond earned his second career Offensive Player of the Year award, and his third First Team bid as the only Mountie on the top team.

Jameson Ricigliano Jr., Jackson Taylor, and Jack Gartner all flashed highlight underclassmen seasons en route to their Second Team honors.

Among the seven Mounties to earn spots on the All-Honorable Mention teams were Marcus Quaker, Marcus Melle, Aaron Thomas, Ian Mapp, Chase Thompson, Kellen Herman, and Nolan Zona.

Raymond was known as the Swiss army knife, converting to his triple threat role and was unstoppable. With the new role, the senior posted 604 rushing yards and 386 receiving yards, leading the team in both yardages. While leading the CSFL in all-purpose yards at 1,159, his rushing yardage put him third in the league in rushing and fifth in the conference in receiving. The Philadelphia native posted nine rushing touchdowns and a 91-yard receiving touchdown, while breaking the record for the longest rushing touchdown of 99 yards. In the pocket, Raymond went on to become the sprint program's all-time leader in career passing touchdowns and threw for seven on the year with 686 passing yards. Overall, the captain contributed 210 total yards per game and around two touchdowns per contest.

Ricigliano Jr. had a highlight year in his freshman season, earning the most rushing yards by a running back at 427 yards, good for seventh in the conference. The New York native posted two 100+ rushing yard games, one of two players to reach such yardage. The freshman had three bursts of 15+ yard rushes on the season.

Taylor was the clear linebacker you did not want to face on the Mountaineer defense as the conference found out the freshman's abilities quick. As the leader of tackles in the CSFL in his first year, the Troy native led the team in solo (53), assisted (22), and total tackles (75). Every game, he posted at least seven tackles and had two double digit games, including 15 total tackles at Penn. Taylor also had four tackles for loss and three pass breakups.

Gartner picked up his first CSFL accolade in his first year on the field for Mansfield. The sophomore helped anchor down an offensive line that brought the sprint program their highest rushing yards in a total season with 1,920. The Wyomissing native created a front that allowed three Mountaineer athletes to be placed in the top eight in the conference's rushing leaders.

Quaker was a part of the two-quarterback system in his rookie season, leading the team in passing yards and finished fifth in the conference with 829. The Elliottsburg native also accounted for 278 rushing yards on the year. Five passing touchdowns and four rushing touchdowns highlighted the first year and a 107 rushing yard, four touchdown day at Cornell stood out as the best game for Quaker.

Melle picked up his first honor as key contributor in the receiving core for Mansfield, finishing seventh in the CSFL with 352 receiving yards. The senior led the team with four receiving touchdowns and averaging 50 yards per game on the year. In a two-game stretch against Chestnut Hill and Army, the Norristown native accumulated 204 receiving yards and three touchdowns in a career moment.

Thomas earned his first accolade, finishing out his career with the Mounties in a bright season, finishing fourth in the league in pass breakups with four. The senior also had his first career interception in his final game of his career. The markdown corner had 20 total tackles on the year and the D.C. native commanded a secondary that acted as a no-fly zone, allowing no passing games of over 175 yards, while the Mountaineers reached that four times.

Mapp claims his second straight honor after being named to Second Team last season. The junior led the team with seven tackles for loss and had 22 tackles on the year. While also picking up two sacks on the season, the New Jersey native had two games against Penn and Molloy where he accumulated 2.5 tackles for loss in each instance.

Thompson continues to soar up the interception leaderboard in program history, grabbing his fifth interception of his career in his sophomore season. The Julian native earned 20 tackles on the year and picked up a tackle for loss for his second consecutive conference honor.

Herman finishes out his Mountie career with his second straight conference recognition after being a staple on the Mountaineer offensive line. A crucial part of the line, the left tackle kept the team moving and his leadership on and off the field was a significant part of the team's abilities to move the ball down the field with explosiveness.

Zona rounds out the Mountaineer accolades on the year with his first career conference accolade after a highlight season as the team's kicker. The Ellwood City native made 33 extra points on the year, the second most in the CSFL and had a conversion rate of 89.2%, which stands as the fifth best in the league to close out his sophomore season.

The ground game was the plan for the Mountie team who broke their single season rushing record with 1,920 yards. Mansfield finished 3-5 on the season but finished 3-1 in the division.
