No. 9 Mountaineers Knocked off In Overtime Battle with Millersville

The Mansfield field hockey team finished up their regular season portion.

MANSFIELD, Pa. - The No. 9 Mansfield Mountaineer field hockey team (10-8, 4-5 PSAC) finished out their regular season in overtime with the Millersville Marauders (8-9, 3-6 PSAC), but the Marauders spoiled the regular season finale, with a late goal in overtime to take down the Mounties, 1-0.

It took ten minutes of action before an advantage was earned with the Marauders picking up the first penalty corner of the afternoon. Off the missed opportunity, Mansfield ran down in breakaway fashion to send shots from Jenna Duke and Melanie Esh with no success, to end the first quarter.

Right away, Millersville gained a penalty corner 14 seconds into the second quarter, posting two shots with August Lewis saving both to keep the score empty.

The Mountaineers focused pressure, landing three penalty corners in just a minute, landing two shots by Carli Eberly and Kenedy Stroup. Three more penalty corners saw the end of the half, but neither found the back of the cage as the two conference members landed in a 0-0 deadlock.

One minute in the third quarter, Millersville made a crucial attempt, but Lewis was able to limit their chances, and the Mountaineers turned in around, pushing two penalty corners and three shots to no wood being hit for a goal.

Millersville and Mackenzie Warner contributed a shot each before the final quarter started.

Two penalty corners for Mansfield started the fourth quarter with no crucial decider earned.

The Marauders landed five shots in 71 seconds with no game ender as the two teams headed to overtime with the second time for the Mounties and the third for Millersville.

Mansfield controlled the extra minutes, earning six shots and four penalty corners, but the Marauders' one chance earned them the victory off a deflection right back to the attacker who tapped in an easy ball for the PSAC victory.
