Mounties Top Bald Eagles 3-2, Ties Best Start In School History

MANSFIELD, Pa. - Mansfield Women's soccer jumps out to an early 3-0 lead and survives the late Bald Eagle push to improve to 2-0 on the season, tying the best start since 2009.

Junior Danielle Drain started the scoring early for the Mountaineers. In the Fifth minute, Drain capitalized after a wonderful through ball by senior Emily Smith to give Mansfield a 1-0 lead.

Thirteen minutes later, the Mansfield attack caused a Lock Haven turnover and Smith added a goal in the 18th to extend the Mountaineer lead.

Mansfield started the second half quickly, as just three minutes in sophomore Quelyn Nepa added her second goal of the season from the penalty spot to make it 3-0.

The Mounties had another shot to tally when, senior Kylie Boyer made an incredible run, but Lock Haven goalkeeper Megan Miller made a great save to stop the attack.

Lock Haven senior Evelyn Ciaccia cut the lead to 3-1 in the 74th minute to make the home opener interesting.

Ciaccia poured in her second of the game with 10 minutes to go in the game to shrink the deficit to one, but the Mounties held on late for the 3-2 conference victory.
