BB: Mounties drop home PSAC East doubleheader with #14 ESU

MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield University baseball team dropped a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division games to No. 14 East Stroudsburg University, 12-1, 15-8 on Monday, April 3 at Shaute Field. 

After being limited to one run in the first game of the doubleheader, the Mounties erupted for eight runs on 16 hits in the nightcap, but ESU put up four runs in the third inning and five in the fifth on their way to 15 runs and the sweep on the afternoon. 

Alan Bautista had a monster afternoon, finishing 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Bautista's first big fly was a 3-run blast in the bottom of the ninth. 

Zach Spray, Bautista, Zachary Shertzer, and Brittain Shander collected three hits each, with Spray adding a double and Shander notching a double and a triple. Shertzer, Jacob Houtz and Marcus Nales joined Bautista with RBIs. 

Eric Gustofson landed the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs on five hits in 4 and 1/3 innings. Josh Colon was the Mounties most effective reliever after not allowing a run in three innings of work. 

In game one, the Warriors scored 12 runs on 13 hits and took advantage of three Mountaineer errors to earn the victory. 

The Mounties lone run came in the fifth inning when Shertzer doubled home Shay Gustafson

For MU, four different players recorded a hit with Shertzer notching the only RBI and extra-base hit. Ryan King was dealt the loss on the mound. 

For ESU, Cameron Hubbard and Tim Haverstick homered, while Brent Francisco earned his seventh victory, limiting the Mounties to one run on three hits in five innings.

The Mounties travel to Salem University for a four-game non-conference series beginning Friday, April 7 at noon.
