SB: Mounties drop twinbill at Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V. – The Mansfield University softball team dropped a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division games on the road at Shepherd University, 7-0, 18-2, on Sunday afternoon, April 2.

In game one, Shepherd jumped out to a four-run lead after on inning, before adding two runs in the second and one in the third to lead 7-0 after three complete.

The Mounties were held off the scoreboard and were limited to two hits as the Rams held on for the victory.

Morgan Berndt and starting pitcher Danielle Goff each found the hit column for MU.

Lauren Moore homered to lead the Rams' offense, while Katie Laing picked up her seventh victory on the mound, striking out six hitters in six innings.

In game two, the Mounties opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning thanks to RBIs from Berdnt and Gabby Drum.

However, the Rams put the game out of reach just one inning later, scoring 18 runs on 16 hits, while taking advantage of four Mountaineer errors.

That was the only inning the Rams scored in, but it was enough to end the game in five innings due to the run rule.

The Mounties host Kutztown University tomorrow afternoon for a 1 p.m. PSAC East doubleheader for their home opener at Helen Lutes Field.
