MANSFIELD- The Mansfield University cross country team opened the 2022 season with a solid showing at the Mansfield Short Course Open, welcoming Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe Bloomsburg University and Penn College on Saturday Sept.3.
The men raced first in a 6K, senior
Christian Tanner (Smethport, Pa./ Smethport) and sophomore
David Wootten (Georgetown, Del./ Sussex Central) were the top Mountaineer finishers crossing the line in seventh (20:27.5) and eighth (20:29.1), respectively.
Freshman
Derek Simpson (Ulster, Pa. Notre Dame) and sophomore
Seth Neal (Westfield, Pa./ Cowenesque Valley) grouped together next for the Mounties finishing 11
th (20:52.9) and 12
th (21:07.6).
Sophomore
Owen Showers (Lebanon, Pa./ Lebanon) crossed the line in 16
th with a time of 21:43.2. Junior
Abraham Calderon (South Amboy, N.J./ South Amboy) and
Simon Richards (Camp Hill, Pa./ Ceder Cliff) rounded out the Mountaineer finishers taking 19
th (22:38.1) and 21
st (23:41.2).
For the women's 4.5K race, senior
Carly Daniels (Cumberland, Pa. /Cedar Cliff) finished third with a time of 17:10.6.
Sophomore
Angie Colon (Farmingville, N.Y./ Sachem East) and juniors
Anna Duncan (Harrisburg, Pa./ Lower Dauphin) and
Bailey Morgan (Windsor , N.Y./ Windsor) packed up to take places seven through nine, with times of 18:18.4, 18:26.1, and 18:31.8, respectively.
Senior
Shelby Alexander (Liberty, Pa./ North Penn-Liberty) and sophomore
Carri Claypool (Sayre Pa./ Sayre) and freshman Anisa Lytle (York, Pa./ York Suburban) rounded out the Mounties finishing 14
th (18:59.0), 16
th(19:06.3), and 21
st (21:31.0), respectively.
The Mounties return to action Saturday Sept. 10
th as they travel to compete in the Manhattanville College Invitational in Bronx, N.Y.
