Mounties fly past unbeaten Redhawks, 3-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior Olivia Bowman (Johnson City, N.Y. / Johnson City) scored a goal and dished out an assist to lead the Mansfield University women's soccer team (2-6-1 overall) to a 3-0 non-conference victory over previously undefeated Roberts Wesleyan College (8-1 overall) on the road on Monday evening, Sept. 26.

The Mounties broke the scoreless tie in the sixth minute when Bowman beat the keeper off a helper by Olivia Hudson (Camden, Del. / Caeser Rodney).

Bowman returned the favor in the 16th minute, finding Lauren Straub (Walnutport, Pa. / Northampton), who scored her second goal of the season to extend the Mounties' lead to 2-0.
Bowman has a goal and an assist in back-to-back games.

The third goal for the Mounties came in the 36th minute via an own goal from Roberts Wesleyan.

The Mounties defense was impenetrable, keeping the Redhawks off the scoreboard, despite being outshot by 17 and losing the corner battle, 12-0.

Freshman goalkeeper Samantha Merklin (Effort, Pa. / Pleasant Valley) recorded her second shutout and victory in net, while notching seven saves.

Nicolette Knauf made three saves in net for Roberts Wesleyan, landing the loss.

The Mounties are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. when they travel to Shippensburg University.
