COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Mansfield University men's and women's cross country team collected eight top-10 finishes at the Equality Invitational 8K race on Sunday morning, Sept. 25.
Senior Carly Daniels (Cumberland, Pa. /Cedar Cliff) finished second in the women's 8K race with a time of 31:39.8. Sophomore Angie Colon (Farmingville, N.Y./ Sachem East) (6th,33:23.1), senior Bailey Morgan (Windsor , N.Y./ Windsor) (8th 33:53.6), sophomore Carri Claypool (Sayre Pa./ Sayre) (9th, 34:09.7), and junior Anna Duncan (Harrisburg, Pa./ Lower Dauphin) (10th , 34:11) all collected top-10 finishes. The 8K race is the longest race the women's team will have to race all season and is the first in program history.
Senior Shelby Alexander (Liberty, Pa./ North Penn-Liberty) (11th 34:11.3) and freshman Anisa Lytle (York, Pa./ York Suburban) (21st 39:56) completed Mansfield's finishers.
The men had three top-five finishes led by senior Christian Tanner (Smethport, Pa./ Smethport), finishing third with a time of 26:59.1. Sophomores David Wootten (Georgetown, Del./ Sussex Central) and Seth Neal (Westfield, Pa./ Cowenesque Valley) took fourth and fifth in the race with times of 27:30.9 and 27:49.4, respectively.
The trio paced the men's team to victory in the tri-meet, winning with the lowest team score of 37.
Sophomore Owen Showers (Lebanon, Pa./ Lebanon) (12th, 28:35.4), freshman Derek Simpson (Ulster, Pa. Notre Dame) (13th, 28:50.6), and juniors Abraham Calderon (South Amboy, N.J./ South Amboy) (18th, 29:52.2) and Simon Richards (21st 30:13.9) (Camp Hill, Pa./ Ceder Cliff) rounded out the men's finishers.
The Mounties return to action Saturday Oct. 8 as they host the Ed Winrow Invitational, as part of Homecoming weekend.
