The Mountaineer women's soccer program has the weekend off, while field hockey and men's and women's soccer both hit the road, making the lone home contest on the hill the sprint football home opener on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. under the lights of Karl Van Norman Field. 

MU ATHLETICS FULL COMPOSITE CALENDER 2022-23

The Mansfield University sprint football team is set to host Chestnut Hill on Saturday for their first home contest of the season. The contest will begin at 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the gate. The Mounties fell in their opening contest, 33-17, on the road at Caldwell University. MU had positive signs on both sides of the ball, nearly avengin a 51-6 loss to the Cougars a season ago. Sophomore Cahsid Raymond picked up right where he left all last season, rushing for 137 yards on 14 attempts before leaving the game with an injury. Freshman Dion Mathers entered in his place, and went on to throw for 107 yards and two touchdowns. 

The Mounties evened their all-time series with Chestnut Hill at 3-3 after upending the Griffins, 31-14, on the road last season. 

Fifth-year head coach John Evans and the program will honor Dr. Kristen Long (Associate Professor Biology) and Dr. Adam Brennan (Professor Director of Bands) prior to Saturday's home-opener with the presentation of the American Football Coaches Association's "Extra Yard" Game Ball.
 
"On behalf of the College Football Playoff Foundation, the American Football Coaches Association, and Mansfield University, we are honoring Dr. Kristen Long and Dr. Adam Brennan as part of the "Going The Extra Yard," 5th-year head coach John Evans said. Both Dr. Long and Dr. Brennan do so much for our student-athletes. We would like to present them with an autographed game ball, as well as a t-shirt and a gift card for educational supplies."

Field Hockey heads to Missouri

Field hockey hit the road this weekend for a pair of non-conference contests in Missouri as they take on Marywood University (2-3 overall) on Saturday, Sept. 24 at noon and Lindenwood University (2-3 overall) at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The Mounties improved to 3-2 overall after defeating Mercyhurst University in non-conference action on Wednesday. Junior Alex Esterling continued her blazing start to the season, scoring twice to improve her season goal total to a team-leading six. Sophomore Kenedy Stroup, who is second on the team in goals with five, senior Olivia Wagner, and junior Saramae Radel also scored. 

The Mounties will look to end their non-conference schedule on a high note, as they will head into conference play beginning Saturday, Oct. 1. MU hosts Kutztown University on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. at Karl Van Norman Field for their last non-conference game on the season. 

The women's cross country team travel's to Saint Michael's College (Colchester, Vt.) on Sunday, Sept. 25 to compete in the Equality Invitational, their first 8K race in program history. The race will kick-off at approximately 11:15. 

The women's last race was at Famed Van Cortlandt Park, where they competed in the Fordham Fiasco on Saturday, Sept. 10. 

The squad was again led by senior Carly Daniels (Cumberland, Pa. /Cedar Cliff), who finished the 5K race with a time of 20:08.70 to place 20th. Senior Bailey Morgan (Windsor, N.Y. / Windsor) was the next Mountie finishing 35th in 20:56.30.

The Mountaineer men will also compete in the Equality Invitational, with their race kicking off the day at 10 a.m. 

The men are coming off a very competitive race at the Fordham Fiasco, fairing well against a field full of Division I programs. The top Mountaineer finisher was David Wootten (Georgetown, Del./ Sussex Central), finishing 25th, with a time of 28:33.60. Freshman Derek Simpson (Ulster, Pa. Notre Dame) had a breakthrough meet and was the second Mountie across the line in 29th with a time of 29:17.20.
