Mounties Host Midshipmen on Senior Day

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield University sprint football team (5-3, 2-3 CSFL North) scored back-to-back touchdowns to knot the game at 14 late in the first half, but the United States Naval Academy (7-0, 4-0 CSFL South) scored 29 unanswered points to close out a 43-14 Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) non-conference victory on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 5 at Karl Van Norman Field on Senior Day.
 
The Mountaineer Athletic Department honored seniors Deundray Andrews (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon), Jacob Allison (Woodbourne, N.Y. / Tri-Valley), Eugene Haynes (Washington, D.C. / Richard Wright Public Charter), Matt Robert (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads), Chase Moser (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro), Shaquan Jones (Philadelphia, Pa. / Martin Luther King), Kayin Berger (Reading, Pa. / Wyomissing), Brandon Dejesus (Philadelphia, Pa. / Esperanza Charter), and Darius Harrison (Solon, Ohio / Solon) prior to the game for their contributions to the University and the sprint football program.
 
Saturday's contest concluded the regular season for the Mounties, who finished with a tie for their highest win total in program history (five).
 
Reigning CSFL Offensive Player of the Week Cahsid Raymond (Philadelphia, Pa. / Benjamin Franklin) accounted for both Mountaineer touchdowns, finishing with one on the ground and one through the air. Raymond (18-of-36) finished with 193 yards passing and 77 yards rushing. Raymond finishes the season with 877 yards oh the ground, just 13 yards short from his record-breaking freshman season.
 
Haynes hauled in eight passes for 74 yards and Dejesus added five receptions for 52 yards.
 
Robert ended his Mountaineer career with a pair of records, setting the single-season tackle record with 77, while becoming the career tackle leader with 208. With a game-high 15 tackles, Robert broke the season tackle record set by Josh Friebis in 2017, While his career mark broke milestone of linebacking great Jake Myers (2010-13).
 
Freshman Bobby Dell (Emory, Texas / Rains) also finished with double-digit tackles, racking up 12, including 2.5 for a loss of seven yards. Berger (eight tackles) recovered two fumbles, while he and freshman Ian Mapp (Nurlington Township, N.J. / Burlington Township) each recorded a sack.
 
Navy ended the scoreless drought with a touchdown at the 4:21 mark in the first quarter, before extending their lead to 14-0 with 13 minutes to go in the first half.
 
However, Raymond stormed the Mounties back with a pair of touchdowns to knot the game at 14-14 with 7:42 remaining in the first half. Raymond capped off an 8-play 54-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown scamper, before connecting with freshman Beau Schellinger (Emory, Texas / Rains) on a beautiful fade pass to tie the game.
 
However, that was the last time the Mounties found the endzone and the Midshipmen scored 29 unanswered points to close out the contest.
 
Navy outgained the Mounties 240-170, while controlling the clock with a dominate running attack, racking up 240 yards on 47 attempts.
 
For Navy, Alex Totta powered the offense with a game-high 162 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 24 attempts. Quarterback Braandon Atwood also added two touchdowns on the ground and one through the air. Trent Parker returned an interception 63 yards for a touchdown to highlight the Midshipmen defense.
