MANSFIELD, Pa. – Sophomore quarterback
Cahsid Raymond (Philadelphia, Pa. / Benjamin Franklin) rushed for 231 yards and scored three touchdowns and the Mansfield University sprint football team forced six turnovers on defense to fly past Saint Thomas Aquinas College (STAC), 55-5, on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 8 in Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Northern Division action as part of MU's 2022 Homecoming celebration.

Raymond now has 1380 career rushing yards in just two seasons, passing
David Butler (1301 yds) for the most in a career in program history. His 231 rushing yards on the afternoon moves him into second in program history for a single game.Â

Raymond broke off touchdown runs of 77 (third all-time), 65, and 29 yards, finishing with an average of 19.3 yards per carry. Junior
Terrance Quaker (New Bloomfield, Pa. / West Perry) added 55 yards on the ground and a touchdown, while freshman
Jed Reese (Batavia, N.Y. / Batavia Notre Dame) ran for career-high 44 yards and caught a touchdown pass.

The Mounties outgained the Spartans, 385-111, led behind a dominate running attack. The Mounties finished with 322 rushing yards, while holding STAC to 30.

The Mountaineer defense put the offense in scoring position all night, recovering all four fumbles they forced and picking off two passes, including a 34-yard pick six by junior
Kade Showers (Montgomery, Pa. / Montgomery).

Matt Robert (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) and freshmen
Ian Mapp (Burlington Township, N.J.),
Bobby Dell (Emory, Texas / Rains), and
Deshawn Ards (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Arcadia) all recovered fumbles, while
Nyasir Brown joined Showers with an interception. Sophomore
Gavin Hinman (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) continued to impress in his second season, making a team-high 10 tackles, including three for loss, on 1.5 sacks. Senior
Chase Moser (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro) finished with seven tackles, including 2.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss (-30 yards), and Robert added seven tackle, 0.5 sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Sophomore kicker
Logan Shull (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) made 2-of-3 field goals, with a long of 31 yards, while drilling all seven extra-point attempts.

After a slow start in the first quarter, the Mountaineers rattled off 17 straight points thanks to a 13-yard touchdown rush from Quaker, a fumble recovery in the endzone by Robert and a 24-yard field goal by Quaker.

Shull drilled his second field goal (31 yards) of the night to open the second quarter and Raymond followed with his first touchdown, a 29-yard rush with 8:50 remaining in the half.

STAC got on the scoreboard with a field goal at the 4:37 mark, but Raymond answered in a big way with back-to-back touchdown scampers of 77 and 65 yards to start to put the game out of reach.

The Spartans forced a safety with 2:43 to go in the third quarter, but the Mounties answered once more when freshman
Dion Mather (Rochester, N.Y. / East High) connected with Reese for a 14-yard touchdown reception and Showers took an interception 34 yards to the house.

The Mounties host Alderson Broaddus University on Saturday, Oct. 15 in non-conference action at 3 p.m. at Karl Van Norman Field.
