Women's Soccer falls at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Mansfield University women's soccer team (2-9-1, 0-9-1 PSAC East) fell 2-0 on the road at Bloomsburg University (9-3, 7-3 PSAC East) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Wednesday night, Oct. 5. 

The Huskies scored a goal in each half to secure the conference victory. Nicole Varano scored in the eighth minute and assisted a goal by Alivia Gallardo in the 87th minute to lead the Huskies. 

Freshman Samantha Merklin (Effort, Pa. / Pleasent Valley) made six saves in the loss for MU. Riley Springler made one save in the shutout to earn the victory in net. 

Bloomsburg outshot the Mounties 15(8)-6(1) for shots on goal, while winning the battle of the corners, 13-3. The Mounties improved in the second half, firing five of their six shots and taking all three of their corners. 

Sophomore Katelyn Rueppel (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) led the Mounties' offense with three shots, with one coming on goal. 

The Mounties host Lock Haven University on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. for Senior Day as part of Homecoming Weekend.
