MANSFIELD – The countdown is on and we are less than one week away from Mansfield University's 2021 Homecoming Weekend, which features a full slate of athletic events beginning Friday, Sept. 24 and concluding with sprint football's showdown with University of Pennsylvania on Saturday night, Sept. 24 under the lights of Karl Van Norman Field.

BUTSKO BREAKFAST
When: 9 AM
Where: North Manser Dining Room
Details: The Butsko Breakfast has been an annual event since 1986 to honor the memory of former Mountaineer assistant coach Frank Butsko who was killed in an automobile accident during a recruiting trip. The highlight of the Butsko Breakfast is the presentation of the Frank Butsko Award, the most prestigious award that can be bestowed on a Mountaineer football player. The Butsko Breakfast is open to all guests.

TAILGATING
When: 3 PM
Where: Upper N Lot (above Steadman Theater)
Details: Leading up to Saturday's 7 p.m. kickoff of the Homecoming football game against Penn, students, alumni, and community are encouraged to participate and compete in a tailgate competition. Tailgates will be evaluated in three categories: Most Creative, Best School Spirit, and Largest Tailgate by way of Fan Base. Tailgates will be judged by members of the Mansfield University Alumni Association. Winners will be announced and presented with their prize at their tailgate location at approximately 5 p.m.
Access to establish your tailgate in the Upper N Lot will be available on Saturday, September 24 beginning at 8 a.m. No check-in is required. Tailgate space for the competition is available on a first come first served basis. Tailgate responsibly. Go Mounties!
GAMES
Women's Soccer fell to West Chester University, 6-0, on Wednesday afternoon. Their originally scheduled contest with Shepherd University for this Saturday at 1 p.m. has been moved to Monday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. at the MU Soccer Field.
Field hockey is in the midst of their bye week and will return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 25 when they head to top-ranked Shippensburg for a 1 p.m. PSAC East showdown.
Sprint football will host rival Penn under the Van Norman Lights at 7 p.m. to conclude Homecoming 2021 Weekend for the Athletic Department.
The
men's and women's cross country team return to the course when they travel to Lock Haven University for the LHU Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 25.
The
softball program is bringing back old friends and new for their annual alumni game at noon at Helen Lutes Field.

Football All-PSAC selections Riki Kimble '89 and Bob Widhson '76, softball record-holder Tricia Masters O'Neill '91 and wrestling all-time wins leader Scott Setzer '96 will be inducted into the Mansfield University Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame as part of Homecoming Weekend festivities on Friday, October 14.
Field Hockey 10/16/2007: Field Hockey Moves Up to #8 in Latest STX/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll
The Mansfield University field hockey team moved up one spot to #8 on this week's STX/NFHCA NCAA Division II National Coaches Top Ten Poll released today.
Mansfield were 9-6 on the season and 6-6 in the PSAC, one game in front of #10 Shippensburg for the fourth and final spot in next week's PSAC playoffs.
Football | 9/14/2013: Mansfield wins first home night football game in 121 years
Junior Jeremy Estremera ran for a game high 120-yards and two touchdowns to lead Mansfield to a 24-14 win over Princeton in the CSFL season opener for both teams Saturday night at Karl Van Norman Field.
It was an electric atmosphere at Karl Van Norman Field as a school-record 6,233 witnessed the first home night game since Mansfield hosted the world's first night football game in 1892.
Women's Soccer | 10/9/2013: Mounties Post 3-1 Win in Historic First Night Game
Seniors Jessica Kerwin and Danielle Murray, along with freshman Danielle Lentz, scored goals to lead Mansfield to a 3-1 non-conference win over Goldey-Beacom in the first night game in Mountaineer women's soccer history.
Before a large and enthusiastic crowd at Karl Van Norman Field, the two teams were locked in a scoreless tie for the first 40 minutes until Kerwin played a deflected ball in front of the net and beat the goalie to give Mansfield a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute. It was Kerwin's second goal of the year.
Cross Country 9/25/2013: The Mansfield University women's cross country team is ranked sixth in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region poll.
IUP holds the top spot in the poll followed by Edinboro, California (Pa.), Shippensburg and Seton Hill. Mansfield, Bloomsburg, Slippery Rock, Kutztown and West Chester round out the top 10.

field hockey both return to Mansfield on Wednesday, Sept. 29. Women's soccer will host Millersville University at the MU Soccer Field at 4 p.m., while field hockey welcomes Mercyhurst at the same time at Van Norman Field.
Sprint football opens October with their first road contest of 2021 when they travel to Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pa. on Friday night, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium, Conshocken Field "A".
Cross country leaves the state for the first time when they head to Salisbury, Md. to compete in the Dan Cathcart Invitational on Saturday morning, Oct. 2.
