11/5/2021 1:34:00 PM

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University sprint football team hosts Caldwell University in Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) action on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 6 at Karl Van Norman Field for senior day.

The Mountaineers will honor their 11 graduating seniors for their contributions to the University and the sprint football program: Eugene Haynes, Deundray Andrews, Robert Jackson, Chase Moser, Brandon Dejesus, Kayin Berger, Joey Delgardo, Shaquan Jones, Tim Banks, Jason Reed, Holden Meyers, Paige Whitfield, Conlin Wysocki and Dylan Beebe.

Saturday's contest is a battle for second place in the CSFL North's final standings. Caldwell fell to Army West Point, 4-2 in five overtimes in a game that served as the CSFL North's title game last Saturday.

The Mounties (4-3, 2-1 CSFL North) are seeking their first back-to-back five-win season in program-history. The Mounties were 5-2, 3-1 CSFL South last season.

The Mounties, who had not one more than three games in a season since joining the CSFL in 2008, have finished the regular season over .500 every year since 2018 and have never had a losing season under fourth-year head coach John Evans.
The Mountaineers had their six-week CSFL weekly-award streak snapped on Monday.

The Mountaineers earned a CSFL weekly award during the first six weeks of the season, while earning Rookie of the Week all six weeks, Defensive Player of the Week three times and Special Teams Player once.

Freshman quarterback Cahsid Raymond has three offensive honors and has earned Rookie of the Week every week but two. Freshman kicker Logan Shull earned the Mountaineers' their first special teams honor in week six, while Kendall Smith Jr. was named Defensive Player of the Week twice and Rookie of the Week once. The Mountaineers set a program-record with 13 CSFL weekly awards.

LAST TIME OUT
The Mounties fell to the United States Naval Academy, 46-3, in non-conference action on the road on Friday night, Oct. 29.

The Mountaineers fall to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the CSFL North.

Freshman Logan Shull drilled a 40-yard field goal for the second straight week.

The Mountaineers fall to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the CSFL North.

Raymond rushed 12 times for 46 yards to lead the Mountaineer offense.

Junior Matt Robert led the Mountaineers' defense with a team-high 15 tackles, including 10 solo. Senior Chase Moser finished with 2.5 tackles for loss.

The Cougars (4-2, 2-1 CSFL North) are coming off a heartbreaking five-overtime loss to Army West Point last Saturday in the CSFL North Championship game. Neither team could score through regulation and the first three overtimes sending the game into a 2-point conversion showdown.

Each team found pay-dirt in the fourth overtime period, before Army converted once more in the fifth period, while denying Caldwell to earn the win.

Caldwell is off to their best start to a season since joining the CSFL in 2017. The Cougars started the season 4-0 and unbeaten in the CSFL North before dropping their last two contests to University of Pennsylvania (non-conference) and Army.
The Mountaineers will look to remain perfect against the Cougars, leading the all-time series 3-0. The Mounties won on a forfeit in 2019.
