Box Score ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Mansfield University sprint football team fell to the United States Naval Academy, 46-3, in non-conference action on the road on Friday night, Oct. 29.
Freshman
Logan Shull drilled a 40-yard field goal for the second straight week.
The Mountaineers fall to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the CSFL North.
The Midshipmen (6-0, 2-0 CSFL South) forced Mountaineer punts on the opening three series of the game and capitalized on back-to-back touchdowns followed by a field goal to take a 15-0 lead at the 15-0 mark.
However, the Mounties answered on the next drive after a 40-yard rush by Raymond set up a 44-yard field goal by Shull to cut the deficit to 15-3.
Shull's field goal was the second 40-yarder for the rookie in back-to-back weeks.
The Mounties recovered a fumble on the ensuing Midshipmen drive, but could not capitalize. Navy marched down the field for their third score after a Mountaineer punt, to lead 21-3.
The Midshipmen added a field goal and a rushing touchdown to close out the half and head to the break leading 31-3.
Navy scored 15 unanswered points in the second half to round out the scoring.
Raymond rushed 12 times for 46 yards to lead the Mountaineer offense.
Junior
Matt Robert led the Mountaineers' defense with a team-high 15 tackles, including 10 solo. Senior
Chase Moser finished with 2.5 tackles for loss.
The Mounties host Caldwell University on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. at Karl Van Norman Field for senior day.
