Riley Kleinfelter made two defensive saves and sophomore
August Lewis recorded 12 saves to lead the Mansfield University field hockey team, but Kutztown University scored the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's (PSAC) lone goal to escape Karl Van Norman Field with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 19.
The Mountaineers' (8-7, 3-4 PSAC) defense withstood an aggressive Golden Bears' attack, holding Kutztown to one goal despite being outshot, 20-5 and facing 11 penalty corners.
Kleinfelter made a crucial defensive save in each half, while Lewis fought off shot after shot to send away Kutztown scoring opportunities.
Kleinfelter moves into third all-time in program-history for defensive saves in a season with eight, while surpassing Limestone's Chelsea Cangro for the top spot in the nation.
Kutztown connected for the games lone goal in the closing seconds of the first quarter when Olivia Blasone assisted Sarah Gatehouse for the eventual game-winner.
Sophomore
Alex Esterling led the Mountaineer offense with three shots, including two one goal and sophomore
Saramae Radel added two shots.
The Mounties hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 23 for a 1 p.m. PSAC contest at Millersville University.
