RICHMOND, V.A. – Sophomore
Lacey O'Donnell totaled four hits and scored two runs in each game to lead the Mansfield University to a 6-4, 11-0 sweep of Virginia Union University on the road on Saturday, March 7.

The sweep notches the fourth straight victory and improves the Mounties to 6-4 overall heading into conference play.

In game one, the Mounties jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Senior
Alli McGovern scored on a wild pitch to put up the first score of the game. An O'Donnell single up the middle brought in senior
Deshae Jones and O'Donnell later scored on an error by Virginia Union (1-9 overall), making it 3-0. However, the Panthers responded in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-2.

The scored remained the same until the sixth inning, where Mansfield exploded for a three-run inning. Senior
Cassidy Smith belted a triple to drive in O'Donnell and later scored on a wild pitch. Senior
Hannah Breitigan laid down a bunt to bring in senior
Devin Jones to extend the lead to 6-2.

Virginia Union scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth off a homer from Brenda Reninga, but that is as close as the Panthers could get.

The Mounties were led by O'Donnell in the win with three hits, two runs, and an RBI with a pair of stolen bases.

Sophomore
Alexis Easling (4-1) earned the win, securing her third in as many games over spring break. Easling pitched six strong innings, allowing four hits, four runs with three strikeouts. Senior
Connor Decker gave up just one hit and had one strikeout in the save.

Ericka Tiscareno (1-3) pitched eight complete innings for the Panthers in game one, allowing eight hits. Virginia Union was led by Dominique Mulero with one hit, two RBI, and a run.

In game two of the afternoon, solid team defense, pitching and 11 hits at the plate gave the Mountaineers their sixth win of the season in a 6-inning mercy rule 11-0 victory.

Junior
Joelle Snyder, Jones and Smith all notched RBI in the first inning to lift the Mounties to a 3-0 lead. The Mounties added to their lead to 7-0 in the fifth when sophomore
Abbey Woodard plated two with a single, sophomore
Meghan McGinley hit her first RBI triple of the day and senior
Alli McGovern knocked in a run.

In the sixth, the Mounties again plated four runs when sophomore
Hannah Swartz singled to bring in two and McGinley followed suit by knocking in two more runs on a triple to seal the Mounties 11-0 win.

McGinley led the Mounties in game two with two triples, one run and three RBI. Woodard followed with two hits, one run on four at-bats with two RBI. Snyder was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and a RBI to round out game two stat leaders.

Freshman
Danielle Goff secured the first win of her career on Saturday in a complete game, going the full six innings with five hits and zero runs allowed.

Virginia Union's Mulero (0-4) recorded the loss and Reninga again led the team, going 2-for-2 in the game.

The Mountaineers have a week off before hitting the road for back-to-back series. On Saturday, March 14, the Mounties will face East Stroudsburg University in a two game set beginning at 1 p.m. Mansfield then heads to Delaware on Sunday, March 15 for a pair of games beginning at 1 p.m. against Goldey-Beacom College.
