GLENVILLE W.V. – The Mansfield University softball team fell in game one to the University of Charleston, 6-3 before falling 10-3 to tournament-host Glenville State College in the night cap on Sunday, Feb. 23.

In game one, after a second inning run by Charleston, Mansfield (1-3 overall) broke out for a 3-1 lead in the top of the third after a two RBI single from junior
Joelle Snyder and a RBI double RBI senior
Cassidy Smith.

Charleston responded with a breakout inning of their own in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs on five hits (13 total) to move out to a 5-3 lead. An insurance run in their following at-bat propelled the Golden Eagles (7-0 overall) to their seventh straight win of the season.

The Mounties' offense was led by senior
Alli McGovern, who was 2-for-4 with a run and Snyder who had two RBI's, one hit and one run scored.

The Golden Eagles were led by freshman Allysa Lake who was 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI. Â

Alexis Easling (1-1) was handed the loss, allowing five earned runs in six innings of work. . Charleston's Carlee Lucas (2-0) pitched seven innings for the Golden Eagles, allowing just four hits with five strikeouts.

In game two, Glenville State burst out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a bases-loaded single, driving in two runs. The Pioneers extended their lead in the third inning to 5-0.

The Mounties looked to eat away at the deficit late with runs in the sixth and seventh, but the early deficit proved too much.

Alex Hein drove in senior
Devin Jones in the sixth and Synder tripled for the second time in as many day, scoring McGovern, in the seventh.

McGovern led the Mounties at the plate with two hits in four at bats along with one run. Hein added her first multi-hit outing of the year.

Karra Smith led the Pioneers on the afternoon, going 3-for-4 with two runs batted in.

Celina Maberto (1-1) recorded her first win of the season, allowing three runs on six hits through seven innings of work. Freshman
Danielle Goff (0-2) pitched 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits and striking out two.

The Mounties have a week off before heading down to Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Sunday, Mar. 1 to play in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. The Mountaineers will begin their spring break facing Franklin Pierce University of New Hampshire for a doubleheader beginning at 9:30 a.m.
