SHEPHERD, W.Va. –
Sierra Austin scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 54
th minute as Mansfield battled for a 1-0 PSAC East win at Shepherd on Saturday.
The win was the first of the season for Mansfield and lifts the Mounties into a three-way tie for sixth in the PSAC Eastern division.
Stephanie Moir made five saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless as both sides pushed for offensive chances.
It was
Sierra Austin's goal less than 10 minutes into the second half that made all the difference. Austin played the ball past the keeper following an
Eleni Gebbia corner kick. It was the first career goal for Austin.
Shepherd put six more shots on frame in the second half, but Moir turned them all away including a critical goal line stop in the final minute of play. It was the first clean sheet of Moir's career.
Mansfield totaled seven shots with Gebbia, Austin, and Carina O'Neil putting shots on goal. The Mounties held a 3-2 advantage on corners.
Mansfield travels to Millersville on Wednesday.
