Joelle Snyder's inside the park grand slam highlighted Mountaineer softball's sweep of Chestnut Hill and Barton College on Wednesday at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach.

Mansfield scored six unanswered to overcome Chestnut Hill 6-1 before upending Barton 8-2.

In the opener, Chestnut Hill (3-2, 0-0 CACC) was first to get on the board with a run in the top of the second. The Mounties put a runner in scoring position in both the first and second innings, but failed to capitalize.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Mansfield (4-1, 0-0 PSAC Central) tied the game when
Devin Jones reached on a leadoff walk before scoring on a throwing error. The Mounties had bases loaded with one out, but left all three runners stranded with back-to-back outs.

Deshae Jones and
Alex Hein opened the bottom of the fifth with a pair of hits, then
Lacey O'Donnell loaded the bases again with her one-out single.
Joelle Snyder struck a perfectly placed ball down the right field line to clear the bases and beat the tag at home to register an inside the park grand slam. Later in the inning,
Alexis Easling drove in
Alli McGovern to cap a five-run inning to put Mansfield ahead 6-1.

Mountaineer starting pitcher Ari Young tossed her fifth straight scoreless inning to earn her first win of the season. Young struck out four batters while allowing eight hits and four walks in the complete game effort.

Kaley Wise took the loss for the Griffins, allowing 11 hits and six earned runs.
Â
Snyder went 3-4 at the plate with four RBIs and a run scored.
Cassidy Smith and
Deshae Jones each tallied two hits.

In game two, Mansfield jumped on Barton early with a Smith single to center field bringing in Snyder and
Alli McGovern and a
Devin Jones double scoring her sister Deshae.

Lesley Fritz led-off the second with a single before O'Donnell walked. With two outs, Deshea Jones reached on a throwing error by the shortstop that allowed two more runs to score, giving Mansfield a 5-0 advantage.

RBIs by Snyder and
Leah McGovern in the next two innings increased the Mountie lead to seven runs. Barton pushed its first run across in the bottom of the fourth and added another in the sixth.

The Mounties tacked on an insurance run in the seventh when Snyder plated another.
Â
Alexis Easling earned her second win of the season, going 6.0 innings with six hits and two earned runs allowed while striking out seven batters.
Connor Decker shut the door, pitching a shutout seventh inning where she forced three straight groundouts back to the circle.

Makayla Meeks went the distance in the loss, allowing 14 hits with six earned runs and six strikeouts.

Cassidy Smith went 3-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Snyder, Fritz and
Alli McGovern each had a pair of hits.

Mansfield takes on Barton and West Virginia Tech on Thursday.
