Zach McCloskey Selected as John “Jay” Atkins Mountie Award Recipient – Chris Vaughn Named Austin “Duke” Snyder Award Winner

MANSFIELD – Zach McCloskey will receive the John "Jay" Atkins Mountie Award and Chris Vaughn will be presented with the Austin "Duke" Snyder Alumni Appreciation Award during the annual Frank Butsko Awards Breakfast set for 8 a.m. this Saturday, October 5 in North Manser Dining Hall.

McCloskey and Vaughn will be recognized prior to the presentation of the 2019 Frank Butsko Award to senior offensive lineman Dante Torrisi.

Now in its 33rd year, the event honors the memory and legacy of former Mansfield University assistant football coach Frank Butsko.

The John "Jay" Atkins Mountie Award honors former Mountaineer football standout and assistant admissions director, John Atkins, for his inspirational dignity and courage with his ongoing struggle with multiple sclerosis.

McCloskey was in his second year as a student-assistant in the Mansfield University sports information office when he was forced to withdraw from school to undergo three brain surgeries over the past nine months. He is scheduled to return to MU as a full-time student and plans to rejoin the sports information staff this upcoming semester.

The Austin "Duke" Snyder Alumni Appreciation Award has been presented annually since its inception in 2009. The Award was established to honor the memory of former Mountaineer football standout and program supporter Austin Snyder '62.

A 2018 inductee into the Mansfield University Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame, Chris Vaughn is in his 37th season as serving as the public address announcer for the Mountaineer football program. He has missed just one home football game over that span.
