ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Junior
D.J. McLean totaled 97 yards through the air to become the all-time sprint football receiving yards leader in a 55-6 loss to Navy Friday night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
McLean hauled in six receptions, including a 14-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter, to lead the Mountaineers offensively. Entering the game, the junior needed just 26 yards to surpass Kurt Logan (2013-16) for the top spot on the sprint football all-time receiving list. McLean now has 1,275 career receiving yards at Mansfield.
Running backs Caleb Champion and Braydan Chmiel each had a pair of rushing touchdowns for Navy (2-1, 1-0 CSFL South) in the first half. The Midshipmen also added a field goal and a defensive touchdown on a fumble to lead Mansfield (0-3, 0-3 CSFL South) 38-0 at halftime.
Navy added 17 more points in the second half.
The Mountaineers got in the board with 8:28 to play in the fourth quarter when
Adam Hutchison connected with McLean in the endzone in a 14-yard strike. Hutchison totaled 156 yards on 11 passes in the game.
Jayden Walker led the run game with 15 rushes for 40 yards.
Dajuan Buie,
Bryton Barna, and
Chase Moser led the defense with eight tackles each. Moser, Barna, and
Nick Yarnevich each accounted for a tackle for loss.
The Mountaineers are on a bye next week before traveling to Waterbury, Conn. to take on Post University on Saturday, Oct. 13.
