Softball Falls to Undefeated Lock Haven in Season Finale

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Melanie Taylor scored a run, but it wouldn't be enough as Mansfield dropped a rainy PSAC Central doubleheader to division-leading Lock Haven Saturday afternoon at Lock Haven.

Lock Haven (33-10, 19-0 PSAC C) won the opener 4-0 and took the nightcap 2-1.

The opener saw the Bald Eagles score an early run in the first before adding three more in the third and fourth. Mansfield (11-15, 7-12 PSAC C) struggled offensively against pitcher Bekah Slattery, tallying just two hits, including a double by Casey Pearce.

Sierra Storm went the distance striking out a batter while Slattery picked up the win.

In game two, Lock Haven scored a run in the bottom of the first of Mansfield starter Arianna Young.

Mansfield tied the score in the top half of the fifth inning when Taylor scored on an error after singling to left field.

The Eagles were able to pick up an unearned run in the sixth to secure the 2-1 victory.

Young took the loss giving up just one earned run on six hits with a strikeout. Kayla Gee took the win improving to 16-4, giving way to Slattery for the save.

Mansfield ended the 2018 season just out of playoffs with an overall record of 11-15 and 7-12 in conference.
