PITTSBURGH –
Ryan Clifford and
Quincy Amabile continued their remarkable seasons for the Mansfield University Cross Country team after both finished in the Top-25 at the NCAA Regionals hosted by Slippery Rock in Pittsburgh on Saturday morning. The duo crossed fourth and fifteenth, respectively, earning All-Region honors. Clifford will return to Pittsburgh on December 1
st to compete at NCAA Nationals.
Â
The men's 10k race initiated the morning's events with a 10:30 a.m. start time. "Messy" would be an understatement in terms of describing the course conditions throughout the day, caused by a combination of snow and mud, with temperatures ranging from 30-40 all morning.
Â
Clifford finished the 10k in 34 minutes and 34 seconds, converting to a 5:34 mile pace in the sloppy conditions. Â He was the first PSAC runner to cross the line, topping his second-place finish just two weeks ago. Amabile crossed the line at 35:37 as the 11
th PSAC finisher. The two runners both earned All-Atlantic Regional honors and Clifford qualified for NCAA Nationals, which will be held on the same course at the historic Schenley Park on December 1st, 2018. Â
Â
For the women, the 6k took place immediately following the men's 10k at approximately 11:30 a.m. The women had to endure a much sloppier course since they ran on the heels of the men's race. By the time all the men had finished, the course had practically turned into a glorified mud pit.
Lyndsey Payne was the first Mountaineer to cross the finish line as she came in at 47
th overall. She checked in with a 7:09 mile pace, completing the 6k in 26 minutes and 41 seconds.
Kenzie Jones followed Payne with a 27:09 run for 63
rd overall.
