WEST CHESTER – In PSAC women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon, West Chester came away with a 4-0 victory over the Mansfield Mountaineers. Scoring in the first three minutes of the game, the Golden Rams were able to cruise after gaining a 3-0 advantage by the half.
Â
Madison Baxter gave the Golden Rams an early 1-0 lead with her fifth goal of the season at the 2:49 mark. Assisting was Jenny Bail who passed to top of the 18 where Baxter hit a shot past the diving effort of
Stephanie Moir. Less than two minutes later, Hannah Grandell struck a shot which hit the crossbar on her first look at the net. Moir had a game-high eight saves.
Â
Ten minutes in, Mansfield's
Alexis Bittel had a great opportunity from the top of the 18-yard box, but the shot sailed just over the crossbar. Two minutes later, West Chester responded with an eventful attack of their own, earning a corner kick. The set piece was taken by Baxter, who curled the kick to the far post where Grandell this time headed the ball inside the right post, cashing-in and giving West Chester a 2-0 lead 12:08 into the match.
Â
In addition to Bittel's chance at the net,
Eleni Gebbia provided the only other shot attempt for Mansfield, both of which came in the first ten minutes of play. The Golden Rams collectively took 28 shots, 12 on net.
