Lipski Scores, but #2 Shippensburg Tops Mounties 3-1

MANSFIELD – Senior Katie Lipski scored her first of the season, but three first-half goals from Shippensburg would lift the No. 2 ranked team in the country to a 3-1 victory in the PSAC opener Saturday night.

Saturday was Military Appreciation Day at Karl Van Norman Field with the Mountaineers wearing special edition jerseys to commemorate the event.

Mansfield (4-4, 0-1 PSAC) keeper Brittany Ryan had another incredible performance in goal, making 21 stops against the defending National Champion Raiders. Ryan tops the conference in saves pct. (.890) and saves per game (10.13) and is second in shutouts with three.

The Mountaineer defensive line also made several critical plays with Madison Wilinsky making three defensive saves in the game. Abbie Predmore and Megan Griffin each recorded defensive saves of their own.

Shippensburg (6-1, 1-0 PSAC) was unrelenting on offense in the first half, totaling 28 shots with 15 on frame. The Raiders got on the board in the 14th minute on Brooke Sheibley's score then added goals by Jazmin Petrantonio in the 18th minute and Mary Spisak in the 24th minute.

Mansfield turned it up after halftime, outworking Shippensburg for much of the second half. In the 60th minute, Lipski got Mansfield in the scoring column when she took a deflection off the keeper and played it into goal. It was the fifth career goal for the senior.

The Raiders held a slight 13-12 advantage in shots and 7-6 advantage in penalty corners in the second half. The Mansfield defense put on a performance to keep Shippensburg scoreless in the period.

The Raiders' Kyle Huffman recorded a pair of defensive saves to prevent scores for Mansfield.

The Mountaineers continue PSAC play on Wednesday at Mercyhurst.
