MANSFIELD –
Arianna Young and
Sierra Storm spun complete game wins in the circle to lead Mansfield to a sweep of Clarion in PSAC Central action at Helen Lutes Field on Saturday.

Mansfield (14-7, 4-2 PSAC Central) won the opener 9-0 in five innings before rallying for a 5-2 win in the nightcap.

The Mountaineers came out swinging in game one with
Laura Lawson doubling in a run before
Rachael Sterner drilled a two-run homer to right centerfield.
Leah McGovern plated the fourth run of the first inning with an RBI single in the gap.

In the second inning, Lawson followed her double in her first at bat with a triple and was brought in on a Sterner single into left field to make it 5-0 Mounties.

Alli McGovern drove in a run with a double in the bottom of the fourth and scored in the next at bat when
Koryn Wickwire hit her first round-tripper of the year to make it an 8-0 advantage in Mansfield's favor.
Kayla Hahn brought in the ninth run of the game with a single in the hole.

Young retired Clarion 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth to end the game early.

It was another stellar performance in the circle for Young who allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out a pair of batters in the complete game shutout. Young moves to 9-3 on the season and is tied for fourth in the PSAC for most wins.

Lawson went 3-3 in game one and was just a home run shy of the cycle. She scored twice and drove in a run in the win.

Clarion (3-27, 0-6 PSAC Central) looked to avenge the game one loss by putting a run on the board in the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, a Sterner single and
Taylor Chidester walk set-up
Hannah Breitigan for an RBI single into centerfield to cut the lead in half.

Mansfield went ahead when Lawson plated a run with a triple and later scored herself to make it 3-2. A
Deshae Jones RBI double down the line in the fourth gave the Mountaineers a two-run lead.

Melanie Taylor capped the scoring for both sides with an RBI single into centerfield in the fifth.
Â
Storm settled in nicely to go the distance for the win, scattering six hits and striking out five. It was her fourth win of the season.
Â
The sweep positioned Mansfield in a tie for second in the PSAC Central along with Lock Haven who comes to town on Sunday for another divisional doubleheader at Lutes Field. At 4-2 in the Central division, Mansfield and Lock Haven are just a game back from Bloomsburg with a 5-1 record.
