PHILADELPHIA – Mansfield University freshman
Kayla Shapiro qualified for the U.S. Junior Championships in the 5,000-meter racewalk at the Penn Relays on Saturday.

Shapiro finished second in the junior women's 5K racewalk with a time of 27:35 Saturday morning. It was the first time the freshman has racewalked the 5K event. The time qualifies Shapiro for the U.S. Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif. on June 22-25, 2017.

Also competing at the Penn Relays was
Hunter Watkins who finished 16
th in the javelin in a mostly Division I field with his best throw of 58.22 meters.

Shapiro and Watkins were two of three Mountaineers to compete at the 123
rd Penn Relays along with
Kenzie Jones who competed in the 5K run on Thursday.
