MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University sprint football team will take to the road for the first time this season when the Mountaineers travel to Army West Point to face the Black Knights in a CSFL matchup on Saturday afternoon at Shea Stadium on the West Point campus.

Mansfield is coming off a 30-12 setback to Cornell last week while Army dropped a 14-9 decision to Penn. Mansfield lost to Penn in the season-opener 31-7.

Mansfield actually outgained Cornell 347-344 in total offense last week led by sophomore quarterback Adam Hutchison who passed for a career-best 190-yards and a touchdown. Both teams also had 20 first downs each.

Army's loss to Penn was the first time the Black Knights lost a game to a non-service school since dropping a 20-10 decision to Cornell in 2010. The Black Knights held a 357-281 advantage in total offense including out-rushing Penn 251 to -12 yards. Army sacked Penn quarterback Mike McCurdy six times and was on the Penn 28-yard line with six seconds left in the game.

The Mountaineers held a 12-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and trailed 31-26 midway through the third quarter. Mike Maniscalco passed for a school-record 380 yards and five touchdowns in that game with Kurt Logan catching 11 passes for 158 yards and three touchdowns.
Mansfield ranks fourth in the CSFL in total offense after the first two games of the season. The Mountaineers are averaging 323.0 yards per game with 129.5 of those coming on the ground and 193.5 through the air.

The Mountaineers rank second in the conference in passing offense led by Hutchison who is second in the CSFL in passing yards per game at 174.0. The sophomore signal-caller has completed 33-of-59 passes for 348 yards and two touchdowns but has been intercepted six times.

Senior Kurt Logan tops the league in catches per game with 14 grabs for 154-yards. Sophomore Jakob Woods and freshman D.J. McLean ranks among the top 10 in the CSFL in receiving with Woods pulling down seven passes for 73 yards and McLean six receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns including a 48-yard score against Cornell.

Mountaineer freshman Devyn Nelsen ranks fourth in the CSFL in rushing averaging 63.5 yards per game with Keith Brown picking up 71 yards over the first two games.

Mansfield has been plagued by injuries defensively and ranks seventh in the league in total defense giving up 365.5 yards per game.

Senior John Capwell tops the CSFL in tackles, recording 22 stops, including 18 solos, so far this year. Fellow senior Kyle Post ranks 9th in the league in tackles (16). Seniors Mike Bucek, Dylan Flexer and Brandon Pace all have recorded double-digit numbers on the season.

Army, which blanked Chestnut Hill 38-0 in its opener, ranks 1st in the CSFL in scoring defense (7.0 ppg) and second in scoring offense (23.5 ppg). The Black Knights are averaging 334.0 yards per game in total defense including 185.0 yards on the ground.

The Black Knights have used two quarterbacks during the first two games of the season in sophomore Brady Miller and Keegan West. The pair has combined to complete 30-of-70 passes for 298 yards. Marqus Burrell tops the running game averaging 53.0 yards per game.
