Mounties Drop a Twinbill to Division-Leading Bloom

BLOOMSBURG – Kayla Hahn had three hits in the opener and Laura Lawson doubled and drove in a run but it wouldn't be enough as Mansfield dropped a PSAC Central doubleheader at division-leading Bloomsburg Friday afternoon.

Bloomsburg rallied to win the opener 7-2 and won the nightcap 9-1.

In the opener Mansfield jumped out to a 2-0 lead while Mountaineer starter Ashley Inman retired the first eight batters she faced in order holding Bloomsburg scoreless through the first three innings.

Mansfield got a run in the top of the second when Hahn led off the inning with a single. Inman followed with a single of her own with Hahn advancing to third. She later scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Laura Lawson.

The Mountaineers would double-up the lead with a run in the fourth. Lawson doubled to center with one out and advanced to third on a single by Leah McGovern. Hannah Secord drew a walk to load the bases before Melanie Taylor drove in Lawson when she reached on a fielder's choice.

Bloomsburg rallied with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with the big blow coming a two-run single by Maggie Hall. The Huskies added another run in the fifth inning and put up two runs more runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-2.

Hahn had three of Mansfield's nine hits in the game with Inman going 2-4. Lawson doubled and drove in a run. Inman went the distance in taking the loss striking out two. Taylor Parker was credited with her ninth win in ten decision this season for Bloomsburg.

In the nightcap, Bloomsburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.

Mansfield got a run back in the top of the second inning on a two-out RBI single to Kaitlyn Hewitt to cut the lead to 2-1 but the Huskies would add a run in the bottom half of the inning and score four more times over the next two innings to pull away.

Freshman Ari Young took the loss in her first divisional start with Sierra Strom coming in relief in the fourth.

Mallory Tomaschik went the distance to pick up the win for Bloomsburg. The Huskies are now undefeated in 14 PSAC Central games.

Mansfield will host Lock Haven Saturday afternoon for Senior Day at Lutes Field.
