Mounties Closes Out Myrtle Beach trip with Loss to WilmingtonMYRTLE BEACH, SC –
Kayla Hahn went 3-4 but Mansfield fell to Wilmington (DE) 9-3 in the Mountaineers final game at the Snow Bird Invitational in Myrtle Beach, SC Sunday.
Wilmington scored a pair of runs, one of them unearned, off Mansfield ace
Ashley Inman in the top of the first inning before Mansfield tied the game at 2-2 with two runs in the bottom of the third.
Melanie Taylor led off the inning with a single down the left field line and move up to second on a sac bunt by
Koryn Wickwire. Senior
Amanda Goodwin followed with a triple to right center to score Taylor. With two outs,
Megan Miller reached on a error allowing Goodwin to score.
Mansfield took the lead an inning later when freshman
Leah McGovern drew a lead-off walk and later scored on a sac fly by Wickwire for a 3-2 Mountaineer lead.
But Wilmington rallied to retake the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth and added two more in the sixth and three in the seventh for the win.
Mansfield was outhit 12-6 with each team committing three errors each.
Inman went 6.2 innings and struck out six in taking the loss.
Sierra Storm came in for the final out in the seventh.
Kayla Hahn went 3-4 to pace the Mountaineers offense with Goodwin adding a triple. Taylor was 2-3.
Mansfield travels to the Shaw Softball Challenge in two weeks.
