Courtney Wilson scored her first goal of the season, but Southern Connecticut State controlled the offense in the first half to defeat Mansfield 4-1 Saturday afternoon in the opening game of the DoubleTree Classic hosted by Saint Michael's College.

SCSU struck first in the 12
th minute on a Colleen Murphy goal assisted by Zoe Fanolis. Murphy scored again for the Owls just minutes later, this time being assisted by Bailey McGinnis.

Katie Lipski denied a goal scoring opportunity in the 25
th minute with a defensive save, but Murphy played the deflected ball into goal to record a hat trick. Emma Farrel added another goal for SCSU in the 26
th minute to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Owls controlled possession for much of the first half, totaling 20 shots.

Mansfield evened the field in the second half, being outshot by just one at 5-4. All but one of the Mountie's shots in the game went on goal.

Wilson put Mansfield on the board in the 69
th minute after playing a ball into goal right on the keeper's doorstep. The goal was Wilson's fourth of her career.

Laura Lawson made 13 saves in the game for MU.

Chelsea Tanco led the Mounties with two shots on goal.
