FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Error Plagued Mounties Drop a Pair at BloomBLOOMSBURG –
Courtney Bauder doubled and drove in a run but it would be enough to overcome an error plagued afternoon as Mansfield dropped both ends of a PSAC East doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Bloomsburg.
Mansfield lost the opener 5-0 with all five runs unearned and dropped the nightcap 3-1 with two of the runs unearned.
In the opener,
Ashley Inman retired the first six batters she faced but Bloomsburg capitalized on a Mansfield error to plate four unearned runs in the third.
Inman again retired the side in order in the fourth before Bloomsburg scored if in run of the game off an error with two outs in the fifth.
Mansfield managed just a pair of hits in the game, both coming from sophomore
Kayla Hahn.
Despite pitching effectively, Inman was charged with the loss scattering five hits in going the distance while striking out three.
Taylor Parker picked up her sixth win in seven decisions for Bloomsburg.
In the nightcap, Mansfield starter
Chelsey Heatley retired the first two batters she faced but two straight errors with two outs extended the inning and allowed Bloomsburg two runs on a double by Emily Mayhew.
Mansfield closed the gap in the third when freshman
Morgan Boyce reached on an error and later scored on a double by Bauder to put to 2-1.
Bloomsburg got that run back in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run from Caitlin O'Connor.
Laura Knight had an effective outing in relief of Heatley allowing no runs and striking out two over the final 3.2 innings.
Mansfield host Kutztown in a doubleheader this Monday afternoon starting at 2:30 at Helen Lutes Field.
