Mounties Drop 1-0 Heartbreaker at East StroudsburgEAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg's scored in the 62nd minute and then withstood a last-minute flurry of shots to edge Mansfield 1-0 in a PSAC contest on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie at half with Mansfield putting three shots on goal – two of them from sophomore
Bri Carr – to East Stroudsburg's two shots.
But ESU controlled the offensive pace for much of the second half with Sammi Ortiz scoring the game's only goal 17 minutes into the second half after gathering a rebound off a block shot seconds earlier.
Mansfield tried to mount a late-game rally but Carr's shot with just under five minutes remaining was blocked. Two minutes later,
Danielle Lentz put a shot wide and
Nicole Wynne's shot with just under a minute to play went over the net.
East Stroudsburg held a slight 10-8 advantage in shots but had a commanding 10-3 lead in corner kicks.
Alana Greenawalt recorded four saves in goal for Mansfield while ESU's Jules Harris had three stops in picking up a shutout.
Mansfield travels to Shippensburg on Tuesday.
