FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Norton PSAC 5K Champion on Day One of Conference Meet
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Mansfield's
Lauren Norton won the women's 5,000m run to highlight day one of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships at Bucknell's Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Norton, who entered the event seeded first overall, won the 5,000m with a time of 17:33.40. The senior's time was over seven seconds faster than the second place finisher from IUP. With the victory, Norton qualifies for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Freshman
Michaela Lambert finished second in the 200m dash and fourth in the 400m dash preliminaries to earn a trip to finals on Sunday. Lambert turned in a 25.64 in the 200m, just .03 seconds slower than the fastest prelim time. Lambert finished at 58.04 in the 400m.
The men's 4x800m team of
Jake Portock, Benjamin Drexler,
Jordan Boothe and
Shakim Blackwell scored for Mansfield with an eighth place finish at 8:17.08. Boothe, Portock, Drexler and Robert McCoy finished ninth in the men's Distance Medley Relay with a time of 10:38.06.
The women's DMR team of
Allison Macon,
Melanie Hartley,
Melanie Hilliard and
Destiny Parks took 10
th at 13:07.45.
Alexa Tsiknas vaulted 10-02.75 to finish 14
th overall in the women's pole vault.
Jesse Jones finished 22
nd in the men's 5,000m with a time of 15:56.22.
The PSAC Championships conclude tomorrow.
