Upset-Minded Mounties Give #3 Shippensburg All It Can Handle

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Upset-Minded Mounties Give #3 Shippensburg All It Can Handle

MANSFIELD – Katelyn Grazen scored in the final minutes of the game as No. 3 ranked and defending national champion Shippensburg escaped with a 2-1 win over upset-minded Mansfield Saturday afternoon at Karl Van Norman Field.

Shippensburg struck first when Lauren Zegulis came off the bench and put an Emily Barnard pass into goal in the 16th minute. Prior to the goal, Mansfield's Katie Lipski denied back-to-back sure goals by the Raiders for two incredible defensive saves.

The Shippensburg lead would stand into halftime.

Jessi Swingle recorded the game-tying goal in the 51st minute with a hard shot from the top of the circle. The goal came off an Emily Willard penalty corner pass. It was Swingle's team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Grazen scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 65th minute.

NCAA saves leader Laura Lawson was stellar in goal, making 21 saves in the contest.

The Raiders held a 44-11 shot advantage in the game. Six of the Mountaineers' 11 shots went on goal in the game.

Swingle and Chelsea Tanco each put a pair of shots on goal while Brianna Hathaway and Lacey Croasdale each added one shot on goal.

The Mountaineers travel to IUP on Wednesday.
