WEST CHESTER – The Mansfield University women's soccer team opened the 2013 with a hard-fought 3-0 setback to defending NCAA Division II Atlantic Region West Chester Thursday afternoon.

West Chester, picked to win the PSAC this season in the preseason coaches' poll, scored the game's first goal when Carly Yost finished a cross from Dana Hunt in the 15th minute. The Golden Rams went up 2-0 three minutes later when Yost scored on a header off a corner kick.

Mansfield battened down after the second score, keeping West Chester off the board for the next 46 minutes of the game while Mountaineers got off three shots of their own.

Marie D'Angelo scored the game's final goal in the 64th minute.

Mansfield never gave up, putting a flurry of balls on the goal in the final 12 minutes including shots by freshman Danielle Lentz and senior Lauren Boess within a minute of each other.

West Chester held an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal and took eight corner kicks to Mansfield's four.

Mansfield goalie Alana Kreiger went the distance recording 11 saves. Alex Srolis had three saves for West Chester.

Mansfield host East Stroudsburg this Saturday starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Soccer Field.
