Jess Scordino Runs Away with LHU Invitational Crown

LOCK HAVEN – Senior Jess Scordino literally ran away from the field to capture top honors in the women's race of the Lock Haven Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning.

Scordino, who earned All-American honors last season, took the lead after the first 1500 meters and never was challenged before breaking the tape with a winning-time of 20:38.30 over the 6k course. The dominating performance was more than a minute faster than the next runner (Amanda Eisman of West Chester – 21:35.30) in a race that featured 16 teams and 231 individual runners.

Jess's twin sister Kristy Scordino finished fourth overall at 21:49.60 with teammate Savannah Boucher placing 24th with a time of 22:50.10.
Destiny Foster was the Mountaineers fourth highest finisher, recording a time of 23:06.20 for 27th place while Allison McCurry finished four place back with a time of 23:12.60.

The Mountaineers also got strong performances from Lauren Orosz at 66th (24:00.30) and Melissa Cruz (81st – 24:20.50) while Susan Learn (83rd – 24:20.50) and Melanie Hilliard (94th – 24:39.40) each finished in the top 100.

Mansfield tied Marywood in team scoring, each with 87 points and beat five PSAC teams – Slippery Rock, Kutztown, West Chester, Lock Haven and Clarion.

In the men's competition, Mike Robinson and Jesse Jones both posted top 16 finishes to lead the men's team to 8th place overall in a field of 15 teams. Robinson placed 15th overall with a time of 25:47.70 over the 8k course. Teammate Jesse Jones finishes just steps behind in 16th place (25:52.80).

Joelsen Resimo finished 60th (26.42.40) overall in the field of 231 runners with Will Mullen coming in 82nd (27:20.80). Shakim Blackwell placed 131st at 28:38.30 while Jake Portock was 173rd.

Mansfield travels to the Bloomsburg Invitation next Saturday.
