FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield wins first home night football game in 121 years

MANSFIELD – Junior Jeremy Estremera ran for a game high 120-yards and two touchdowns to lead Mansfield to a 24-14 win over Princeton in the CSFL season opener for both teams Saturday night at Karl Van Norman Field.

It was an electric atmosphere at Karl Van Norman Field as a school-record 6,233 witnessed the first home night game since Mansfield hosted the world's first night football game in 1892.

Mansfield got on the board first, capping off a six-play 36-yard drive on a 1-yard plunge by Estremera. Mansfield converted on the point after before Princeton score less than two minutes later on a 66-yard touchdown pass from Chad Cowden to Chris McCord.

A miscue on the extra point attempt led to a PAR return for Mansfield's Jonathan Keller and a 9-6 Mansfield lead.

Mansfield increased the lead to 11-6 on a safety at the 5:09 mark of the third quarter and went up 14-6 on a 19-yard field goal by Kirk Haskill with less than two minutes left in the first quarter.

A 35-yard field goal by Haskill was the only score of the second quarter by both team giving Mansfield a 17-6 halftime advantage.

Estremera's second touchdown run of the game, this one for 7-yards late in the third quarter gave Mansfield what seemed an insurmountable 24-7 lead. But Princeton wouldn't quit, and closed to 24-14 lead with 2:06 to play on a 75-yard touchdown pass to John Wolf from Chad Cowden.

Mansfield compiled 308 yards in total offense to Princeton's 261 yards with 141 of Princeton's yardage coming off two big scoring passes.
Estremera ran for 120-yards on 20 carries and also caught a pass for 18-yeards. Quarterback Ben Pepper completed 6-14 passes for 77-yards.

Senior Jake Myers topped the defense with six tackles including one for a loss. He also forced a fumble and broke up a pass.
