Mercyhurst rallies to down Mansfield 5-2 in women's soccer
ERIE – Freshmen
Kelsey Chapman and Karyn Anselmo each scored a first half goal but Mercyhurst would rally from a 2-0 deficit with five unanswered goals to beat Mansfield 5-2 in PSAC women's soccer Wednesday afternoon.
Chapman scored her first collegiate goal in the 20th minute off a pass from junior
Jessica Kerwin and the Mountaineers would go up 2-0 just over a minute later when Anselmo beat the goalie on a penalty kick.
Mercyhurst got on the board on a goal by Lauren Testa in the 38th minute and tied the game at 2-2 on a goal by Sara Hawksworth with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half.
The Lakers took their first lead of the afternoon two minutes into the second half when Hawksworth headed one into the net off a corner kick and went up 4-2 when Olivia Resch added a goal in the 67th minute.
Mercyhurst scored the final goal in the 74th minute.
Mansfield was outshot 28-7 on the day with goalie
Alexis Wilhelm recording eight saves.
The Mountaineers fall to 1-4-1 on the season after playing four straight games on the road.
Mansfield host Gannon in a PSAC matchup this Saturday.
