WILMINGTON, Del. – Freshman
Karyn Anselmo scored the go-ahead goal from 18 yards out in the 89
th minute to lift the Mansfield University women's soccer team (1-0, 0-0 PSAC) to a 2-1 victory on the road at Goldey-Beacom (0-1, 0-0 CACC) in the Mountaineers season opener Saturday afternoon.
It marks the fourth straight season opener win for the Mountaineers and the seventh time Mansfield won its season opener in the program's 11-year history.
Goldey-Beacom struck early when Kelly Williams' header put the Lightning up 1-0 in the eighth minute.
The Mountaineers put three shots on goal in the first half but were unable to register a score.
In the 65
th minute, senior
Erika Moyer beat the goalie in a one-on-one situation after a through ball from Anselmo to tie the game at one goal apiece. The goal marked Moyer's 11
th career score at Mansfield.
The Mountaineers controlled much of the offensive tempo in the second half, recording nine shots to the Lightning's two and dominating on corners at 4-0. Mansfield outshot Goldey-Beacom 14-13 in the game.
Anselmo paced the Mountie offense in her first collegiate game, recording four shots with three on goal to go along with her game-winning goal and game-tying assist. Junior
Lauren Boess recorded three shots with two on goal.

Nicole Semenza and
Kelsey Chapman who contributed the assists in Anselmo's game-winning strike.
Senior
Alexis Wilhelm recorded five saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal for Mansfield.
The Mountaineers host East Stroudsburg in their home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 5.
